Welcome to the Rossendale Harriers Road Running section. This page is dedicated to the beautiful black stuff..........that's tarmac in case you were wondering!!

The Southern Softie

The Road Racing Championship 2009

I am glad to announce that our winners were Steve Duxbury and Shelley Tattersall respectively. In the men’s section, Greg Mcdermott was a close second to Steve and Andy Buttery third. For the ladies, Eileen Wadsworth was second and Marie Rollie third. All top three will receive prizes at the junior’s presentation night in February.

I was pleased with how the championships went last year with the aim of rewarding people who broke PB’s. Next year will continue in the same format with a few minor tweaks. Extra points will not be awarded for people running in any of the team relay events as I felt it was unfair for those that perhaps weren’t asked to take part. I am also removing the age group placing incentive at the free Saturday park runs which take place in Heaton Park. The frequency of the events could lead to people being able to run and claim points on most occasions. This I did not feel was in the spirit of the championship. The full rules are listed below. Come and see me if you wish to clarify anything.

The event will begin from the 1st January 2010 and end on the 31st December 2010. There will be two categories, Senior males and Senior females aged over 16.

Rules:

The championship will be based on the following points scoring categories. Any 5k, 5 mile, 10k, 10 mile, Half or Full Marathon race run fully on a road surface will count. (The organisers decision on what counts as a road race will prevail). The idea is for you to score points by beating your existing age group PB (your lower age group PB may count if you do not have a current one and feel this is still achievable or a new age group PB will earn you points). You can also score points by gaining first, second or third places in your age group and by competing in certain races that will be announced by the Road Racing Secretary.

Points Scoring:

- Beating your existing age group (or previous age group) PB = 30 points

- Gaining a new age group PB if one not currently held = 10 points

- Coming first, second or third in your age group = (first) 5 points, (second) 3 points and (third) 1 point. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FREE PARK RUNS IN HEATON PARK do not count towards points in this category.

To Register:

If you were in the championships in 2009 then you already in!! If you have changed an age group category then let me know. Otherwise, pick up a form in the clubhouse and submit your current age group (or previous age group) PB’s from the plastic
wallet on the notice board in the clubhouse. Hand these back to myself or put them back in the plastic wallet on the notice board.

Points claim:

Being the good Samaritan, I do keep an eye out for results and new PB’s as best I can. If you have achieved one that I fail to spot then let me know and I’ll include it.

Results:

Will be published on the notice board and also on
the forum.

Winners:

The highest number of claimed and verified points
by the end of 2010.

Latest News January 2010

Relays:
13th March – Haigh Hall 4 stage – This popular event has been well attended by the club for the last few years. The senior men were second last year and even I can run in this one. The event is open to men and women.
21st March – Northern 6 stage for women and 12 stage for men at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester. It would be nice to get strong teams for these events. We have an excellent crop of youngsters who are now available to run and it would be nice for everyone else to support their efforts. Our objective is for the men to make it into the first twenty five teams and qualify for the national finals in Birmingham in April.
If you want to run in any of the events then let me know asap.
