Rossendale Harriers
Advanced notice
Run the moors challenge
2008
Inter- club fell grand prix organised by
Middleton, Radcliffe, Rochdale, Rossendale
and Saddleworth Harriers and ACs.
In
response to comments from members the organisers
have changed the format and the races are
now all local.
Clashes with FRA English championship have
been avoided but there may be clashes with
some track and field and other club events
due to the number of clubs taking part.
There will be all the normal 5 year age
group medals for the first 3 in each category
for men and ladies.
It is hope to have perpetual shields for
some categories
There will be a presentation evening at
the Rugby club, Marl pits in early Dec.
You need 6 of the 11 races to qualify and
this must include at least two races in
two of the three categories of short, medium
and long races.
The organisers hope to be able to present
all those who complete the series with a
commemorative tea shirt
Results will be posted on the Radcliffe
club site and will be accessed by a link
on the Rossendale site – not yet up
and running.
Further
details on each race are in the FRA calendar
and the FRA website, apart from Pilgrims
Cross which has yet to be publicised.
Details from Ian Pudge, Organiser. Reminders
will be posted out and pinned on the club
notice board but please put these dates
in your diary.

Need
a map ?
Are you doing a fell
race and need a map of the route. The club
has purchased several digital map programmes
whereby routes can be individually printed
off rather than having to buy the complete
O.S. map. We have currently map programmes
of the Lake District, South Pennines,The
Peak District and Yorkshire Dales. Contact
me on our club email address or see me on

Kit for fellrunning
Fellrunning can be
a dangerous sport although considering the
terrain we race and train on and the environment
in which we conduct our sport thankfully
mishaps and accidents are few and far between. There
is no substitute for experience although
there are simple things that we can all
do to prevent misadventure and one of those
is to invest in the proper kit. Nick
has written an excellent article regarding
the joice of kit for fellrunning, click on

articles by Rossendale athletes.
We have received 2
excellent articles on Fellrunning by 2 of
Rossendales best ever fell runners.Mervyn
Keys has sent us an article on his experiences
and especially his introduction to the sport
and the Rossendale Fell Race 1981. It is
an interesting article and should not be
missed ! The second is by Derek Ratcliffe
who some of our newer members will not know
but who may have heard of. Along with partner
Pete(Erroll) Irwin they won the KIMM 5 times
and Derek excelled in the longer tougher
Lakeland fell races.
